Offense only - would you rather have Ichiro or Adam Dunn?
Who would you choose, and why? Which player do you think will win more games for you, counting only their offensive contributions?
That's tricky. Good one, Craig.
Wishy-washy answer, but it would depend on the composition of my roster. If I'm sorely in need of power, I take Dunn, and if he continues to put up 40+ HR and 30+ doubles and 100+ walks, I'll easily live with it and not reconsider.
If I'm set for mashers, content with what they produce and want a lot more go-go in the lineup, it has to be Ichiro. He NEVER misses a game (not that Dunn hasn't been reliable too), he does have some decent power, runs the bases well, and is always putting the ball in play (and rarely, rarely GIDPs).
Ichiro is the rarer talent, but he's also six years older (though he looks to be one of those very rare players, where the skill set fades very, very slowly and he keeps going forever, like Rickey Henderson). Dunn, hmm, he's probably at his peak right now and could rapidly fade into typical old-player performance. That doesn't matter now but it could by 2010.
Ichiro's got the edge in recent win shares, which looks good.
