Steve Mcnair
Do you think Steve McNair will go into the Hall of Fame?
I'm no football expert and don't follow stats and stuff but I do know Steve McNair was an incredibly tough quarterback who won the MVP and came within a yard of winning the Superbowl. He was also one heck of a nice guy who always kept his cool even when his opponents were talking trash and hitting him from all sides. What a loss. Does McNair have the stats to make it into the Hall? Something tells me he doesn't quite have the numbers of a Favre, Elway, or Marino but what do you think?
Not a chance. He was a good QB but his numbers are not HOF good. Keep in mind that Steve McNair played in a very pass friendly era in which QBs numbers are much more inflated than decades before. Mcnair never once threw for 30TDs and the most he ever did was 24. I'm sorry that WILL NOT get him into the HOF. For example Brett Favre threw for 30TDs EIGHT TIMES and in five consecutive years.
Mcnair had one maybe two stellar seasons and even those were basically an average season for a guy like Brett Favre or Peyton Manning. The numbers just aren't there for a QB that played in the 1990s and 2000s. Pass interference rules were altered in the 1990s and again in the 2000s which played to the advantage of the passing game. QBs are now throwing for much more yards and TDs than ever before. Compared to QBs of the past, Mcnair ranks amongst the greats but he just wasn't that great compared to QBs of the 1990s and 2000s. Don't get me wrong. Mcnair was a good QB but he wasn't HOF good.
I can think of 3 QBs that played in 2007 that will be hall of famers. Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, and Tom Brady. As much as I like Mcnair, he just isn't in the same league as these guys. Not even close.
